Alain Lemay
Senior Web Communications Analyst, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada
I will admit, I have always been more of a jack of all trades than a master of anything. I like to try things. I read on as many subjects as I can and love nothing better than to discover something that I knew nothing about. It’s the thrill of finding out there is still a part of the world that is new and fresh for me.
I consider myself to be an aspiring modern polymath. I like to write, take and photoshop pictures, travel, read, cook, and so much more. No, actually, that’s pretty much it. Oh, I also love to watch movies but maybe that doesn’t count…
I have occupied many different positions in government in the past 17 years, but most centered around new technologies and communications. I have done some project management but where I really shine is in communications, writing to be more precise.
I am the "Social Media Guy" at Foreign Affairs (in Canada). I am heavily involved in social media in all shapes and sizes and you can find my profile on most platforms.
I have also helped out small businesses and professionals in the past with their communications, marketing, and branding and I have a few projects in the works.
I am also an adept of what I have dubbed “Persuasion Communications”, which is actually a repetition since I believe that all communication is an attempt at persuasion.
Bottom line, if you need help on communications issues, I can help!
I am officially assigned to handle Web 2.0 at DFAIT.
I have developped a social media policy for the department and am working on a toolkit.
I regularily advise sections or programs on how to incorporate the use of social media in their ectivities.
