Greg Athanase
Distribution Manager - Dry, General Mills Canada
I have a master in Logistics from France and started in the 3 PL world in France (4 years) and in Canada (5 years). During this experience I focused on warehousing operations and became an expert in all main areas (receiving, picking and shipping).
My biggest accompishments on the 3 PLS side were to lead some start ups for new customers:
- France: National distribtion centre for Total oil (while workong for Giraud Logistique)
- Canada: Regional Distribution centre for Sam's Club (wile working for Tibbett and Britten).
I was in the "heart" of Wal-mart supply chain and gained tremendous knowledge and expertise from one of the best supply chain leader in North America.
Then I wanted to see an other aspect of the supply chain and moved to the vendor/shipper side.
I have been working at General Mills Canada for 7 years and I was in charge of the dry network (transportation inbound and outbound, 2 distribution centres) for 5 years. I managed the relationship with the 3PLs (2 in transportation and 2 for warehousing).
I am now in charge of all transportation activities within Canada and manage the 2 temperature controlled warehouses operated by 2 different 3PLs.
I broaden my supply chain experience by managing transportation and being exposed to manufacturing and inventory management
Manage all transportation activities within Canada (inbound from plants and outbound to customers DCs)
main liaison with US Transportation team to arrange all inbound cross border transportation into Canada
Manage 2 Temperature controlles warehouses operated by 2 different 3PLS
2005 - 2010- Manage the dry network including transportation (inbound and outbound) and warehousing operations(2 distribution centres).
- Manage the relationship with all three 3PLs and carriers
1999 - 2005SCM is the dedicated 3PL for Walmart Canada and manages all 7 distribution centres and transportation (inbound and outbound).
I worked in all departments and learnt all possible different ways to flow a product through the warehouse.
My biggest acomplishment was to lead the start up of Sam's Club on the warehousing side (hired and trained all people, design the layout of the warehouse and implemented all processes).
Also I was part of a project to study the feasibility to outsource the supply chain function of the Canadian forces (taking over all warehousing operations and inventory maangementin in all Canadian military bases).
1994 - 1998Managed customer relations and warehousing operations
