Winnipeg resident Dr. Randy Allan holds several advanced degrees. After earning his Bachelor of Science at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Randy Allan remained with the institution to obtain his Doctor of Medicine with a pathology studentship in 1976 and pathology residency in Vancouver in 1983. He also obtained a Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1995. While studying for his Master's degree, Dr. Randy Allan wrote a thesis entitled “Differentiation of Benign and Malignant Breast Cells on FNAB using Digital Image Processing and Learning Vector Quantization Neural Networks.” Between earning his M.D. and his M.S., Dr. Randy Allan received clinical training at The University of British Columbia with an internship in New Westminster and a residency in general and anatomical pathology in Vancouver. As Senior Resident, Dr. Randy Allan obtained the award for best research presentation by a general pathology resident. During this period, the American Journal of Hematology printed his article entitled “Congenital Erythroleukemia: Case Report and Review of the Literature.” For several months in the early 1990s, Dr. Randy Allan lived in New York after accepting a fellowship specializing in skin diseases at The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University Langone Medical Center.
Beyond his education, Dr. Randy Allan has spent the past 30 years assisting medical centers throughout Canada. Between his internship and residency, Dr. Randy Allan served Concordia Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital as an Emergency Room Physician. After finishing his residency, Dr. Randy Allan acted as a Pathologist for Richmond General Hospital (now Richmond Hospital), Burnaby Hospital, Trainor Laboratory, and Lake of the Woods District Hospital. For these facilities, Dr. Randy Allan held the responsibilities of conducting autopsies, lab research, hematology test analysis, and other diagnostic work. As Chief of Staff and Laboratory Director with Trail Regional Hospital (now the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital) in Trail, Canada, Dr. Randy Allan supervised the clinic’s surgical pathology results. Additionally, Hamad General Hospital in Doha, Qatar, hired Dr. Randy Allan as Acting Director of Cytopathology for a period.
Today, Dr. Randy Allan cares for patients as a primary care physician and house call doctor with Main Street Medical Clinic. He had previously joined Four Rivers Medical Clinic and Envoy Medical Dispatch as a house call physician. The house call programs established by Dr. Randy Allan have proven popular among the citizenry, and Dr. Randy Allan offers the unique trait of being the area's only physician to perform various kinds in-home lab tests.
