Sheila Vallely
Human Resource Advisor, Salem Manor - Extendicare Canada
Currently I am working on my B.Human Resource & Labour Relations, with a projected completion time in 2011. I will be writing the NKE exam for the CHRP designation once my degree is complete.
I have a zest for learning new information, concepts and prospectives. I do hold several certifications such as:
Registered Professional Recruiter (RPR)
Canadian Management Professional (CMP)
I have found with my studies and the use of the RPR and CMP, it has enabled to find, build, support and manage employees to be the best they can be.
In my last position as a (Multi-site)HR Coordinator, employee-labour relations was a large part of my position. Establishing an open door policy, building position relationships with all stake holders and through full cycle recruitment and retention strategies was able to fill and retain staff from a 45% to a 96% level.
Working as a Personnal Manager was a challenge to my creativity and abilities in HR. Developing full cycle Recruitment and Retention strategies, establishing an open door policy, building relationships with integrity, performance management of employees and ensuring personnel files were ready for 2 audits are some of my achievements that I take pride in.
I have found employee relations is one of my main passions. I enjoy working with people who have diverse backgrounds, skills and personalities. By being able to transfer my skills of working with special needs has given me an edge and advantage to working with diversity and building rapport with others with integrity quickly. I take pride in my career and would like to expand on faciliating training courses in the future.
Currently I am working as a Human Resource Advisor for a Nursing Home. Onsite there are two unions and it is giving me a chance to work with unions and being at the bargaining table where valuable experience is being learned.
For me, the ideal work environment would be where an employer encourges creativity, innovation and supports their employees to be the best they can be professionally and personally. And of course, a place where people can smile.
